The Unicorn Job - Is it for You?

Have you heard the term "Life/Work Balance" and wondered if you could ever find it? We invite you to consider becoming part of our team. We are warm, welcoming, collaborative!

Who is Plum Coaching & Consulting?
We started in 2011 as a job search coaching practice. Lora Poepping, Plum’s founder, has been a recruiter for more than 20 years (yikes!). The idea came out of this: take what we know about recruiting and turn it upside down and then share that knowledge with clients.

Today, Plum is a multi-service firm, with Job Search Coaching, Transition/Career Coaching, resume writing, LinkedIn classes and a growing small business HR consulting practice.

What does a Plum HR Consultant do?
We love small business. We appreciate the heart and soul that goes into growing a business (we’re one too) and in that spirit, we enjoy supporting the HR side of organizations that are in the 10 – 200 person range.

We provide HR on demand. That means that if a small business doesn’t need full time HR support, we play that part. Sometimes we answer brief questions on the phone, sometimes we go to our client’s office and sometimes we are an ear-to-bend as a business faces growing pains.

We are our client’s HR resource.

Our work ranges from making certain that a client’s employee files are complete to creating on-boarding programs. Sometimes we help a client create an employee handbook (yes, there are still handbooks) and at times, we may answer a question about the protocol for releasing an employee.

We’re growing and we need more of us to serve more of those clients who need us.

You get the picture.

Interested? Here’s what we’re seeking.
Unlike Big Corporate HR work, this type of consulting requires knowledge of the “nitty-gritty”: compliance, employment practices, employee files, on boarding, employee handbooks and sometimes, leadership or management development.

Clients are often starting from scratch when it comes to their HR, so you have to be able to roll up your sleeves and know what needs to be done.

You’re going to need a strong knowledge of HR policies, at least 5 years of true HR experience (small business is great) and a VERY strong, proven ability to work well with clients. Believe us, you’ll be asked lots of behavioral interview questions about that.

You also need a college degree. You just do.

Really, really, really important: we are a small, upbeat, fun, supportive and client-focused virtual team. No whiners. We get together too. We bowl or go to a meditation workshop offsite or do something fun at least 2x a year.

This position is for the Puget Sound area, so please do not apply if you living in Montana or Nebraska or anywhere other than the Seattle area, OK? We mean it. Your resume will just go in the No pile.

MUST READ....The small print.

  • This is a contract position. All of Plum’s coaches and consultants are contractors (aka: 1099’s) to Plum. Plum handles the marketing, billing and business development, so that our coaches can enjoy working with our clients.
  • Sometimes you will work just one day a week at a client engagement, sometimes 5 days. YOU GET TO SELECT THE LIFESTYLE YOU WANT!
  • Our coaches get their benefits via other channels and have their own small businesses. Yes, it’s possible to have your own business too.
  • Another really important point: since Plum is a business that relies on clients to keep consultants busy, you have to be OK with ebb and flow in hours. Just being honest here. We do our best to keep you as busy as you want to be but despite our best efforts, we don’t control the flow.

If none of this scares you...If this excites you...If you live in the Seattle metro area...If you have the experience that TRULY aligns with this position, then go ahead; send your resume to us.

*****Before anything: review Plum’s website and get a feel for what we’re all about. When we interview, we ask you for specific information about Plum, so you'll want to be prepared.
