MISSIONThrough the use of social and restorative justice principles, Five Keys provides traditionally underserved communities the opportunity to improve their lives through a focus on the Five Keys: EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, RECOVERY, FAMILY, COMMUNITY.POSITION SUMMARYThis HR Generalist will be solely focused on supporting the nearly 500 employees we have operating our transitional and emergency housing facilities in both Oakland and San Francisco.Our Housing Service Division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.To meet the needs of our employees, we have an HR team of approximately 10 people who work across 6 days a week and a variety of office hours.Although this position reports to the Assistant Director of HR, they also have a dotted line reporting requirement to the Director of SF Housing Services.We are looking for someone who insists on maintaining a positive attitude and enjoys supporting a diverse group of people.If this job is for you, you are extremely organized, easy to talk with, and not much seems to upset you.You welcome the responsibility to support the administration, coordination, payroll, and HR needs of these employees.You will perform human resources-related duties and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: recruiting, hiring, training, benefits, payroll, employee relations, and performance management.You will support the Five Keys mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens. You are comfortable working with all employees from every walk of life, including previously incarcerated individuals.Ideally, you also have high levels of empathy, patience, and compassion.And if youre like the rest of our HR team, youve got great energy, and youre willing to work hard and go the extra mile to take care of our employees and uphold the Five Keys mission.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESParticipates in developing new departmental processes, approaches, policies, and procedures to better support our Housing Services DivisionParticipates in benefits administration, including assisting employees with enrollment, answering questions, and providing resourcesMaintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment lawsLeads investigations on employee relation and harassment reports and provides recommendations to department staff and Assistant Director of Human ResourcesParticipates in the recruitment effort for all department staff levels; works with supervisors to screen, schedule, and interview candidates; extends job offersCollaborates with the HR team and agency-wide supervisors to complete payroll-related tasks in preparation for each processing periodCollaborate with hiring managers to edit job descriptions, approve job postings, conduct reference, and social media checks, hire new employeesAttends, assists employees, and may present at New Hire Training, staff meetings, hiring events, or other events as neededProvides support and direction to new employees and assists with system access during on-boardingMaintain accurate employee data in HRIS (currently Paycom)Works closely with employees and leadership team to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retentionAdministers leaves of absences and workers compensation claimsAlerts leadership team of potential HR issues as necessary, such as employee complaints, health and safety concerns, major policy violations, etc. and works with them to resolve issues with employeesProcess employee terminations and complete all HR processes and documentationMakes photocopies, scans, and files HR documents, mails/ships packages and letters as neededAssist with other departmental tasks and organization-wide initiatives as neededPerforms other related duties as required and assignedKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSMust be familiar with the employment laws and knowledge of where to find answersMust be tech-savvy, able to learn and navigate the HRIS system, experience with Paycom a plusAbility to work independently, in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with varied projects and multiple stakeholders, with competing deadlines and prioritiesAdvanced proficiency in MS Office, Gmail, and Google Drives/Docs and professional communication, including spelling and grammarRequires effective oral and written communication skills; ability to express complex ideas with clarity and precision in written documentsExcellent typing skills and attention to detail, especially when doing data entryExcellent customer service skills and be willing to go the extra mile in finding answers and following upMust be able to maintain strict confidentiality and take all precautions when handling sensitive informationAdvanced problem-solving skills; tactfully addresses and resolves questions/concernsAble to travel throughout the area to all NorCal Five Keys Housing Services locationsEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEBA/BS degree required or the equivalent of a combination of experience and educationMinimum of 7 years experience as a human resources generalist, with investigative employee relations experience includedExperience with leave of absence and benefits administrationLifting items that weigh up to 25 lbs.; reaching, bending, carrying, and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and activitiesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMay need to come into our Oakland office for training or specific meeting purposesMust wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when neededModerate to an extensive degree of physical and emotional staminaFrequent and prolonged standing, walking and sittingTravel to multiple sites requiredLong periods of walking, sitting at a desk and/or computer stationWORK ENVIRONMENTWorking in housing services locations with guests that may have exposure to COVID-19Must be willing and able to travel throughout the area to multiple locationsWork environment varies from site to siteThere is some personal safety risk working with the at-risk populationTracking.aspx?JbMlw5dE4dgBV4R8X9AIFQy
