Human Resources Generalist Job Description

FLSA Status: Exempt

Working Hours: M-F 8am-5pm

Reporting to: Human Resources Director

 

Summary:

Since 1950, Hobie has been in the business of shaping a unique lifestyle based around fun, water, and innovative products. From our headquarters in Oceanside, CA, we design, manufacture and distribute an impressive collection of watercrafts, including kayaks and standup paddleboards, for world-wide distribution. We are looking for a strong Human Resources Generalist to help us with our mission of igniting the world’s passion for fun on the water!

 

The Human Resources Generalist will partner closely with the HR Director to support HR initiatives that align with business goals in an environment where talent development, safety and risk mitigation are critical to the overall success of the organization. We are working towards streamlining HR and building new programs that will help drive a high-performance team. This is a fantastic opportunity, for an experienced HR professional, who is excited about being part of driving measurable change and accomplishing highly visible initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the HR team to help develop and execute strategic initiatives
  • Assist with executing the company talent strategy through recruiting, candidate engagement and employee onboarding.
  • Perform weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and resource for all employees with the goal providing a high level of service to all employees
  • Support HR Compliance
  • Assist in managing employee relations, including performing necessary investigations with excellent documentation
  • Build a strong relationships with our managers in order to help them with their human resource needs.
  • Maintain employee files including updating HRIS with relevant employee changes.
  • Assist with the Administration of health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations.
  • Assist with annual Open Enrollment process
  • Assist with workers Comp Management
  • Prepare and process employee terminations when needed.
  • Reconcile benefits statements.
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Perform clerical functions such as photocopies/scans of relevant documents or files.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 5+ years of work experience in human resources field (familiarity of full employee lifecycle a must)
  • PHR and SHRM-CP certifications or four-year degree in Human Resources or similar major are a plus
  • Working knowledge of standard business practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and HR policies and procedures, with a drive to continuously educate self on new employment laws
  • Experience working with all levels of employees, including upper management
  • Strong computer skills within Microsoft Office apps (primarily within Excel and Teams)
  • ADP Workforce Now experience is ideal
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with managers and employees alike
  • Ability to follow through with responsibilities while maintaining order and accuracy, in a timely fashion
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as, part of a team
  • Problem-solving ability and proven accuracy with detailed information
  • Reliability, dependability and flexibility
  • Ability to work in front of a computer for long periods of time in a high volume environment

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is ideal to support our talent diverse business
  • Experience processing payroll with ADP Workforce Now is ideal
